Odins Stone
As I approach the circle of stones I wonder who these people were…….why did they erect these great stones here and why did they put so much effort into digging this vast trench.
Across the causeway is another stone circle…..they are very different and look out across the waters….. an avenue of stones connects them and seals bask in the sunlight on the waters edge.
My father is Brodgar and he is a great man ! We settled here many moons ago and have enjoyed farming the land. It is very bountiful!
To prove to my mother how much he loves her, he had my brothers and I bore a hole in another free standing stone …. Now called the Odin Stone. When finished he reached through and held my mothers hand as they made their vows to each other again….. betrothed across the sea, they were betrothed again on this island that we now call home.
It will always be called the Odin Stone.
I sit in the shade of a great mound and look to the horizon…. There are strange ‘bumps’ everywhere and I wonder if the ‘ancients’ were responsible for them too?!
My experiences on Orkney were marvelous and reignited my imagination in a tremendous way. If you are interested in exploring Skara Brae, Stones of Stenness, Ring of Brodgar, or any of the phenomenally important historic sites found here, let me know.
