We Look Down Onto The Sea
Six of us tumble out of our minibus….
Two run into the public WC whilst the rest of us zip up our jackets and lace up our boots.
I swing my daypack over my left shoulder and look across the small car park to the cove and waves breaking over the pebble beach……. The sound of the water moving hundreds of the rounded stones is delicious!
Gathering my peeps together, I lead them up a narrow cliff path, and we all start to chatter between ourselves….. a sense of excited anticipation is creeping into us.
As we crest the headland, we look down onto the sea.
It’s truly beautiful!
The azure green waters wave at us as the suns rays dance between the soft clouds above us.
I reach for my water bottle, stop, look and swallow some cold water down.
Answering a couple of questions and cracking a bad joke I lead everyone down into the next cove and onwards.
We’re following the SW Coast Path in a NE direction from Chapel Porth Beach, towards the small community of St Agnes….. our final destination being the abandoned mines that sit on the cliffs just a mile ahead of us.
I gather my thoughts as I shall talk about mining in Devon and Cornwall, as well as give a little chat about the Industrial Revolution…. Big subjects!
I look back out to sea….. and hear light happy footsteps behind me
