Spring Is A Good Time For Our People
The broch stands like a grey sentinel on the headland behind me…. We call it the’Pimple’ because from out at sea it looks like a spot on the grassy mainland.
The gannets are diving for their supper around me, so I cast my small net. The birds and I are after the same prey and there is enough to go around.
My wife, Eldryth, will make a hot fish pie this evening and I’m looking forward to sampling some of the herbs the the Roman trader bartered with us last week…. I believe he called them rosmarino e timo…. Nice words, but I’m sure Eldryth will know what to do with them and will cook up a feast for all of us.
Our broch is very crowded this spring. There were four new births over the winter. I’m pleased that those families have all decided to build their new homes in the shadow of the broch, and as I speak, I can see more of our menfolk cutting the new ditches and bringing in the new stone needed to house them.
Spring is a good time for our people.
