North Wales And Whiskey

Here is an image that I took about 6 years ago !!!! …. I can’t believe that it’s been this long. I’m with some of my small tour group members, standing high up on the Carneddau mountains of North Wales, in Snowdonia National Park. The chap with the flat cap on, at the rear of the vehicle, is Gareth Wyn Jones…. A friend, a hill farmer, an author and a TV personality. For several years, he and I have taken off during the evening to go and look for the wild horses that roam these mountains, and it’s always a special time. On this night my group members were able to witness the sun setting over the island of Anglesey….. it was a wonderful moment. !

The following morning we were due to walk a Roman road that traverses this section of coastline, from Caernarvon to Chester, but on this evening we were almost tempted to stay up there and do it without sleep.

We found the horses and discovered a large bottle of Welsh whiskey in the back of my rucksack, which we drank (so we were able to warm up our insides) as we descended back down to the farm above Llanfairfechan. Rhian, Gareth’s wife was awaiting us. She had prepared a bowl of lamb stew, which we hungrily devoured…..

It was a lovely evening with friends….. finished off with us all singing the Welsh anthem…. I’m looking forward to the Spring.!
