I’m headed to the pub

I’m headed to the pub….. The Star, to be more precise

Bath has a lot of wonderful memories for me. As you know, these days I get to show fellow travellers around the city and it’s surrounds, but I always try to offer a pub visit.

When growing up in the city, my love was the great sport of rugby. Playing for the local rugby club, meant that my opportunities for ‘going for a pint’ were quite limited because of my training regime, but I did occasionally get to enjoy an evening at one of the ‘local haunts’.

I take people up to The Star….. it’s great! We walk lazily through the town, up Milsom Street ( retail eye candy for visitors from overseas) and turn onto George Street….. I always stop and give people time to look into the estate agency windows so that they can gain an appreciation for the expense of living in this splendid place before turning the bend and walking along the flagstone pavers of The Paragon.

Another of Baths many crescents, the Georgian architecture here, can take your breath away, especially when the town is closing down and traffic is light, as it will be for a short while in the evening.

We always tumble into the pub excitedly and as everyone settles into a ‘nook’ I order some beer at the bar.

Four or five jugs of the pubs own brew are lined up and I’ll pass them down to my travelling friends.

My instructions to them are always clear…… ‘talk to the locals’….

They do, and with conversations beginning all over the pub, my job is done.

Cheers!
