Deck Chairs And Gin …..
My room isn’t ready…… and it won’t be for at least another hour!
We all know the feeling don’t we.?
Endless hours flying, driving, training, busing or walking…..craving a gin and tonic and a shower, along with some ‘shut eye’.
Well, it’s certainly a part of my life…. One, which I have discovered, that does have its benefits.
Let’s keep the gin and tonic in the frame….. I leave my bags at reception and go in search of a quiet corner. I place my glass on a drinks mat ( keeping the surface clean) and pull out my IPad.
I start to type….. ( as I am right now). Running my own small travel business, there are the inevitable ‘tour enquiries and questions’, to answer. There are research notes to record. Reminders to myself…. ‘Marks things to do’, are typed onto the glass/plastic frame that is nestled onto my lap. Social media comments must be addressed, and of course…….. of course, I can read my ‘online books’…. What would I do without them?
On this occasion, I had just arrived in Harrogate for the beginning of a Northern England private tour. My bags secured, I headed out to the lawn in front of our splendid Victorian hotel. Deck chairs were lined up in regimental marching order…. I chose one and sat down.
Placing my rucksack onto the chair next to me, I sipped on my gin. Condensation trickled down the stem of the glass and dropped onto my jeans.
I stared at the little spot of water as it was absorbed by the fabric.
I took another sip……
And I relaxed.
