Christs College….
Christs College has been good to me…but it’s time to move on!
I leave it’s hallowed halls and head down to the coast. I’ve been studying invertebrates for three years and now have the chance to get my teeth into some geology and natural history. I am going to sail to the other side of the world on a voyage of scientific discovery.
The Beagle awaits!
Hmmmmmm…. I just spoke with Fitzroy, the sloops captain… and the news is not good. The admiralty decided to get the Beagle refitted in time for the voyage to Tierra Del Fuego, but she is unable to sail at the moment because the paint, varnish and sealants haven’t dried…. As he said, ‘she is a sticky mess’ and must wait, here in Devonport.
Oh well, this means that I’ll have a few days to investigate Plymouth and it’s medieval dockyards…. Wonderful.
My boarding house is located up on Plymouths Hoe and I have very grand views out over the Sound…. And the weather is good. I now have a chance to write up some of my thoughts on ‘natural selection’. It fascinates me how different species appear to have ‘branched’. I’m hoping that my travels will clear my mind and enlighten me a little.
But first I have to wait …. for the Beagles paint to dry!!
