Devon And Cornwall Tour And Staycation
April 5th - April 14th
Day 1 - We’ll meet in our hotel for a tour briefing and tour member chat and then get to know each other over dinner. After dinner we’ll enjoy an evening stroll and orientation.
Day 2 - After a hearty English breakfast we’re going to board our minibuses and head out. First stop will be the beautiful little port town of Appledore where we’ll explore what makes maritime communities tick. A brief lunch will be followed by a stroll along the beach of Westward Ho !. A natural geological feature, the beach boasts golden sand and an incredible pebble ridge that stretches for miles. You’ll be free to enjoy dinner this evening!!
Day 3 - Another lovely breakfast will fortify us for a days adventures, after which we head off to explore the extraordinary fishing village of Clovelly. Privately owned for centuries, we’ll guide you through this beautiful place where no vehicles are permitted except for sleds. Its a terrific step into Britains past.
Day 4 - Its market day today, so join us as we venture into Barnstaple to enjoy the old pannier market, an ancient covered market that exudes Devonian atmosphere. After lunch we’ll head out to Hartland Quay to see the extraordinary rock formations that give the name to our geological ‘Devonian Period’. A pub dinner will follow !
Day 5 - We leave North Devon this morning but head into the heart of the moors. Dartmoor is a beautiful place with many stories to tell. Let us bring some of those alive for you. Perhaps we can encourage some of the moorland ponies to come and join us. From Dartmoor we drive on towards Newquay and check you into our beautiful hotel at Mawgan Porth.
Day 6 - This morning we’re going to visit a tin mine, but not before we have enjoyed a stroll along the beautiful sands of Mawgan Porth. You may recognise it as featuring in the TV show ‘Poldark’….. for that matter, you’ll recognise the tin mine too.
Day 7 - Enjoy a big breakfast and stock up on some energy…. We’re going to drive to the south coast of Cornwall, and visit St Michaels Mount. Famous for its tidal causeway we’ll take the short boat trip to or from the island and visit the house and abbey on the privately owned island, a sister to Le Mont St Michel.
Day 8 - This morning we will drive to The Eden Project. An amazing collection of the worlds largest biodomes that artificially sustain and study an Amazonian rain forest and a Mediterranean environment. After lunch we’ll pay a visit to another small fishing community at Portreath. This time we’re going to learn how to play cricket… and eat ice cream.
Day 9 - After breakfast and a short drive, we’ll visit the stunningly beautiful home of Lanhydrock. A stately home built of granite and visually lovely, set in its own gardens, Lanhydrock House also boasts one of the best Victorian interiors in Britain… set in a Jacobean/Elizabethan framework, the package is a delight.
Day 10- After breakfast we will wish you farewell and aid you with your transport needs.
