12 Day Bath And Its Surrounds Tour 2024

Sept 2 - Sept 13th

Day 1 - This afternoon we’ll meet in our beautifully located Bath hotel and enjoy a tour briefing and refreshments prior to heading into the city for dinner together. After getting to know each other over a great meal, lets hit the streets for a fun evening tour of this beautiful city

Day 2 - Today we’re going to do the things that you’d expect to do in this historic city. An historic city walking tour will help you become acquainted with this UNESCO World Heritage city’s background and will introduce to some of the main characters responsible for its development. We will provide an audio tour of the famous Roman baths AND a sumptuous cream tea in the Pump Rooms which overlook the Abbey Courtyard. This afternoon you’ll be free to visit Some of Baths famous museums, such as the Fashion Museum and Number One Royal Crescent. Enjoy an evening of rest strolling as our Georgian ancestors will have done, through the atmospheric streets and drink a pint in one of its myriad of local pubs.

Day 3 - We’re going to hit the road, after a great breakfast, this morning. A beautiful drive will take us to the Cherhill White Horse and Iron Age Camp. A lovely walk will take us up onto the horse where we will discuss Britains ancient past. Another short drive will see our arrival at West Kennet Long Barrow, a 4000 year old tomb perched on a ridge that overlooks Avebury. Here we’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, before walking the two miles up an ancient stone lined Avenue that will take us into the stone circle of Avebury. Probably the largest stone circle in the world, we’ll discuss the history ad construction of this wonderful place. Heading back into Bath, you’ll be free for dinner tonight.

Day 4 - Today we’ll head to Oxford! The famously academic city of Oxford will be explored. You will gain access to at least one of the great colleges and enjoy a fine lunch in the centre of this ancient city. After lunch we’ll take you visit the gravesite of Britains ‘Greatest Man’ Winston Churchill. We’ll talk about his life and what he achieved before we head back to Bath to enjoy dinner together, in one of its fine restaurants.

Day 5 - We want you to visit another great city today…Bristol! It lies just 10 miles to the West of Bath and is a very modern, very diverse and ‘happening city’. We’ll take you into its restored heart, The Docks where we’ll enjoy a waterside lunch. Then we’ll investigate one of the most beautiful parts the city…Clifton. As its name implies, Clifton is a small city within the city, that sits atop some cliffs overlooking the River Avon, below. We’ll take the opportunity to walk out onto the worlds first single span iron suspension bridge created by the famous Isambard Kingdom Brunel, to take in the incredible view of the city, that it affords. A relaxing drive into Bath will give you the chance to decide where you’ll eat tonight.

Day 6 - One of the ‘must sees’ in the Bath area is Glastonbury Tor and Abbey. However, I want you to see something equally spectacular first. Then we’ll proceed into the heart of Somerset so that we can climb to the top of Glastonbury Tor and look out over this historic area. We’ll visit the Abbey before going in search of a cider farm…. yup! all cider in England is alcoholic and its been made in the area for thousands of years. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed along the way today, as its an active day, so wear some comfortable shoes. You’ll be free for dinner tonight.

Day 7 - Another jewel in the crown of this area is a small village called Lacock. It is a ‘protected’ village because of its architecture and history. I guarantee you that you have seen glimpses of it on your television and movie screens, but we’ll give you a guided tour of this beautiful village. We’ll have lunch in a local pub, followed by a glorious walk through this ‘green and pleasant land’. After returning to Bath we all go to dinner together in another of the fine restaurants in the city. Lets enjoy the hustle and bustle of a fine dining experience in the city.

Day 8 -This morning we’re going to visit Nunney Castle… a gem…. and will have a chance to explore the medieval past of this lovely area and then onto Stourhead Gardens….. Britain does gardens well. Stourhead is a beautiful example. Its Palladian House, Temple of Flora and King Alfreds Garden all set these gardens ahead of the rest. You’ll be free to explore at your leisure.

Day 9 - Another trip into Bristol today. We’ll take the short train trip into Bristol, pile into taxi cabs and head for the medieval city centre and docks. We’ll learn about Bristols past… slavery, sherry, The Americas and exploration. Lunch will be had in one of the many restaurant and cafes that litter the old dockland area, before we visit the SS Great Britain and the exhibitions surrounding her.

Day 10 - You’ve eaten Cheddar cheese…today we’ll take you to Cheddar. A spectacular gorge leads down into the small town of Cheddar. Cheese tastings await…. as does a visit to the labyrinth of caves that run through the hillsides in the area. Enjoying a pub lunch, we’ll have a glorious relaxing day.

Day 11 - And of course Bath !!!. Today you’ll have a chance to visit some of those places in Bath that you’ve read about and never had the time to explore….. Or perhaps its your first stay in Bath ! Either way, we will help you gain access to The Fashion Museum, The Assembly Rooms, Museum of Bath at Work…. perhaps you’d enjoy a visit to one of Baths many unique pubs, The Green Tree, The Star? Alternatively, a walk along the canal tow path, out to the small village of Bathampton will be provided……..We have a day lets fill it.

Day 12 - We’ll help you with your transportation info this morning, and we’ll shake your hands and give you big hugs as you head out for more adventures….. who knows, perhaps you’ll be joining us on another tour.!
